Trilobite Fossil

Trilobite fossil, Calymene, Upper Ordovician, 450 million years old, measuring approx 77mm x 42mm. Extinct marine arthropods that existed for roughly 270 million years from the Early Cambrian to the end of the Permian period. Their name means "three-lobed", referring to their segmented body structure (head/cephalon, thorax and tail/pygidium). They were able to roll into a ball to protect their soft undersides.
