Teredo fossil wood, 51 million years old - Eocene period, measuring approx 75mm x 53mm. An ancient, petrified driftwood, characterized by distinct tubular holes made by Teredo shipworms. These marine molluscs bored into wood, leaving tunnels later filled with silica or calcite, creating a "swiss cheese " effect. Found Green River Formation, Colorado.
