Nephrite Jade Chinese Puzzle Sphere

Nephrite Jade Chinese puzzle sphere. Also known as a "Linglong Ball", consisting of multiple, concentric spheres carved from a single block of material (traditionally Ivory, but now often in Jade, Stone or Wood). Each layer is carved with elaborate designs and patterns. The name "Linglong" translates to "exquisite", "ingenious" or "clever" and is often referred to as "devil's work" as the craftsmanship was considered so fine, it could only be done by supernatural beings. There are two true types of Jade, Nephrite Jade and Jadeite. Nephrite Jade is most often seen in a mid to deep green, sometimes with black spotting and comes from Siberia but is now mostly mined in Canada, New Zealand Russia and China. It is the most popular, slightly softer than Jadeite, and is used to create beautiful carvings. Jadeite is found in a variety of colours, green, purple and white.
