Faden Quartz

Faden Quartz specimen, measuring approx 55mm x 22mm. A unique variety of Quartz, characterized by a white, cloudy, thread-like inclusion running through the centre of the crystal. It forms when the crystal breaks due to tectonic movement and subsequently heals, with the white cloudy line representing the 'fused' area. One of the most widespread minerals in the world. Some Quartz crystals have the ability to generate electricity when hit, (piezoelectric). Used in many everyday things, such as clocks and electrical devices.
